Mississippi Blues Joins The GCPL As Newest Member

The Gulf Coast Premier League is proud to announce plans for expansion with The Mississippi Blues SC. The team will be bringing another squad to the Jackson, MS area and will be comprised exclusively of players and coaches with ties to the statewide soccer community. This represents another step forward in providing a competitive playing opportunity, allowing homegrown players to continue their playing careers.

Justin Roberts, Technical Director for The Blues and local youth club Brilla JUNIORS, said that the primary reason for adding the team was to bridge the gap between the youth teams in the area and the highest levels of soccer in the state, ideally allowing for another level for continued player development. “We want to give these players every chance to continue their growth past what the youth club programs in the area currently provide. Whether it’s preparing them for their college careers or helping them reach goals with the local Premier Development League team and beyond, our goal is to develop players in and from our state. Joining the GCPL gives us a great league platform to pursue those goals”

GCPL Vice President Jonathan Rednour said “We’re excited to be bringing another team into the fold and giving another region a chance for their up and coming players to strengthen their game.”

Early commitments to the team include John Avery Slay from Brandon High School and Mississippi’s Gatorade Player of the Year, Sumner Richardson from Northwest Rankin High School. The Mississippi Blues SC will play it’s inaugural season in the Summer of 2018 with home games played at Traceway Park in Clinton, MS.
